this month, I wrote the first Items
Of Information to
keep Friends Of One Columbus and others informed and up
to date on activities and events that relate to our
work. A once a month board meeting, special
announcements and infrequent notices in the print and
electronic media did not seem to be enough. I kept
getting inquiring calls even after Items
Of Information was in place, and although the calls
did not diminish, the information that readers were
seeking seemed to be getting out in brief and concise
form and on a timely basis.
We started
sending out IOIs to
a couple of dozen readers and today are in the hundreds.
(We did have half a dozen that wrote in and asked
that their names be taken off our mailing list, which we
did). Others have found IOIs
useful and have asked us to add other names to our
mailing list. I
hope you have found Items
Of Information useful and will pass it on to others.
I am proud
that One
Columbus
has come this far, and anxiously look forward to the
rest of 2007 and beyond.
Thank you
for your support, your prayers, and your good wishes. We
look forward to continued service to this community, our
state, country and to the rest of the world.

Events and the Third Annual Recognition Dinner
The Ledger
Enquirer printed the Dr.
Martin Luther King Events Calendar earlier this
week. Every activity during this time of celebration is
important; however One Columbus has its Third
Annual Recognition Dinner on Thursday, January
18, 2007 at the Columbus Iron Works and Trade Center to
which I hope all Friends Of One Columbus will come.
Tickets are $40.00 and can be purchased at any of
four locations. Please see our website www.onecolumbus.org
for the ticket locations, the press release, information
about our keynote speaker Dr. Ruby Payne and the
awardees Carmen Cavezza and Philandria Williams.
Carmen
Cavezza's record of service to this community goes
back a long way. We are particularly proud to award him
the Community Service Award on Thursday. The Chalice
that you will see next week is displayed on the Plaza
Level of the
Government
Center
until, each year, it is presented at the Dinner to the
awardee.
Philandria
Williams is a senior at
Hardaway
High School
and expects to go to CSU or
Georgia
State
next year to pursue her interest in biology. She is a
flag girl at Hardaway and has numerous awards and
credits to her name. On Thursday, She will receive the
Richard R. Miles Award for her essay on diversity. Look
under "Awards" on the website for information
about Richard R. Miles who was a pioneer in his own
right here in
Columbus
