Community Prayer Breakfast April 17, 7:30 am.
On Sunday, April 9, 2007,
Columbus saw one of its most
violent and hideous crimes perpetrated on a Latino family in
South Columbus.
Marcelo
Rivera, a plumber by trade
and a fifteen-year-old boy - Isaias
Bartolon - were the victims
of a violent weekend home invasion.
I joined with many of
Columbus' political and
community leaders in a candle light service at the
Martin
Luther
King Jr.
Elementary School
parking lot last night to hear several speakers offer their
condolences and many ministers pray for the families and our
city.
The presentations pleaded for the community to come together
and asked that we continue to build on the trust that has
been established among those members of our diverse
population - particularly the Latino community.
On Tuesday, April 17 on the Plaza Level of the
Government
Center
three petitioners will be featured at the 7:30 am event.
Karen Richmond, a
Columbus
State
University
student representing CHEC (Cougars Helping to Enhance the
Community), Rev. Sungman Park, pastor of Rock
Presbyterian Church and Timothy Reynolds
representing Fort Benning will pray. There will also be a
special period of silence where individuals may offer their
own personal petitions as they see fit.
If there ever was a time for all of us to come together to
pray for our city, it seems that Tuesday would be an
appropriate time.
