Items of Interest 070907

Now that the yellow caution lights are blinking again, our students are back in the class room and the stifling heat of late August appears to have past, welcome back to the first issue of the Fall series of One Columbus' Items of Information (which we have changed to Items of Interest beginning with this issue). Your comments and suggestions are always welcome as we want to make this a useful and educational piece. Please feel free to contact me or the person identified at the end of each item. Thank you for your support of One Columbus.

Race Relations Breakfast Fall Series begins

This Wednesday will be the 18th year that citizens of our great city have used the democratic dialogue process to address some of the issues that we face here in the Chattahoochee Valley . Even before President Abraham Lincoln issued the Emancipation Proclamation, groups of individuals from different sides of the tracks sat down to talk about opportunities and options to resolve issues - particularly with respect to race. The dialogue may not have been democratic (as we try to make it in our RRB sessions), but it appears we are getting past resolving issues with guns and 'street justice.' The next breakfast will be Wednesday, September 12 beginning at 7:30 AM at Ruth Ann's. A donation of $6.00 is asked. Guests and you're the first time fiends you invite are free.

As Columbus grows and the world shrinks, we are being encouraged to broaden our vision and rethink many of the assumptions that we make about people and our relationship to them worldwide.  The following may be of interest to you:  http://www.iofc.org
