Sunday, June 8, 2008 - Race
Unity Day
In
1997, Race Unity Day was
founded by the Baha'is of the
United States to promote racial
harmony and understanding. It is
recognized on the second Sunday
in June each year. One Columbus
used this opportunity to
highlight its support of Race
Unity Day and was pleased that
Mayor Jim Wetherington and the
City Council proclaimed June 8,
2008 "Race Unity Day." After
the reading of the Proclamation
by Councilor Wayne Anthony,
board chair J. H. Flakes, Jr.
and program committee chair
Allen Page, III detailed some of
the work that One Columbus is
doing in the Chattahoochee
Valley. The Proclamation and the
responses can be seen on the
city's CCG-TV channel each day
at 10:14 am and 8:14 pm.
Highlighted at this session was
the Third Annual Golf Tournament
planned for the Grand National
Robert Trent Jones golf course
in Opelika, Alabama (see below).
Many board members and
participants in the First
Presbyterian dialogue group were
in attendance at the Council
Session.

Dialogue Group
The First Presbyterian Dialogue
Group
continues to examine our
personal interpretation of the
influences that affect our lives
and how others see, hear and
interpret what we say. It's that
difference that we must
understand if we are to achieve
the unity and respect that One
Columbus talks about. This
unique bridge building
opportunity begins at 6:30 pm on
Tuesday. Enter the church from
First Avenue across from the
CB&T parking garage.

Race Relations Breakfast
Race
Relations Breakfasts are
designed to provide a safe
environment where participants
can feel free to express
themselves about issues that
face themselves, their families,
their neighborhoods and/or the
city. Sessions on the second
Wednesday are unscripted, and
items on the agenda are YOUR
items. On the fourth Wednesday,
we sponsor a series "My
Challenges with Race" that
feature individuals who have
experienced challenges in their
lives - particularly with
respect to race.
The
Race Relations Breakfasts are
held at Ruth Ann's on Veterans
Parkway. Breakfast begins at
7:30am and you
are
encouraged to bring a friend
with you.
$6.00 is asked of regular
members. First timers and
visitors are our guests.
