Columbus seeks nominations for prestigious Community Excellence
Award
The Fifth Annual One
Columbus Recognition Dinner will be held on Thursday, January
22, 2009, where a person or organization will receive the
prestigious One Columbus Community Excellence Award for their
work in the field of diversity and race relations. The Dinner
will be held at the Trade Center at 7:00 pm and will conclude a
week of events that start with Martin Luther King Jr.'s
birthday.
The
nomination form and criteria for nominations can be accessed
from the homepage of the One Columbus website www.onecolumbus.org.
The winner would have demonstrated
significant efforts toward assisting, encouraging and promoting
diversity and affecting change in the quality of life for the
Columbus community as well as contributed to improving racial
harmony.
Former
Community Excellence Award winners include Dan Amos, Carmen
Cavezza, Rev. J. H. Flakes, Jr. and the South Columbus
Revitalization Task Force.

Wednesday,
August 27, 2008 - Race Relations Breakfast
Our
sixth in the series "My Challenges with Race" will
feature Owen Ditchfield, who was elected to
a four-year term on the Muscogee County School Board in 2000 and
has, since 1972, been a teacher in the Fort Benning School
system as an Information Specialist (librarian) at Edward A.
White Elementary School. Born in Chicago, raised in Southern
California, and after serving in the Army, married his wife
Mabel and settled in Columbus. They raised four children while
making an enormous contribution to the citizens of Columbus
South and the broader community. "Bridging the Divide
through Understanding People" will be the topic of
his presentation.
The
Race Relations Breakfasts are held at Ruth Ann's on Veterans
Parkway. Breakfast begins at 7:30am and you are encouraged to
bring a friend with you. $6.00
is asked of regular members. First timers and
visitors are our guests.

September 15, 2008 - Film/ Dialogue
St.
Thomas Episcopal Church and One Columbus are sponsoring the film
Divided We Fall - Americans In The Aftermath followed
by a dialogue session. This
once-in-a-lifetime event is scheduled for 7:00 pm in the Parish
