Monday, September 15, 2008 - The Aftermath of 9/11 - Film/Dialogue

On Thursday, the nation paused to honor the memory of those who were lost in the tragedy of the twin towers seven years ago. The first recorded death in retribution was of a man shot to death because he was wearing a turban. One Columbus and St. Thomas Episcopal Church are hosting the screening of Divided We Fall - Americans in the Aftermath. This documentary provides the backdrop for community dialogue about hate, violence, and what this means to us as Americans. The screening is set for Monday, September 15, 2008 beginning at 6:30 pm at St. Thomas Episcopal church on Hilton Avenue.

Columbus, Georgia, along with over 60 other cities in America are providing opportunities for the public to screen the film followed by a dialogue sesssion. See the website www.dwf-film.com

DOWN THE ROAD

Wednesday, September 24, 2008 - Race Relations Breakfast

Our sixth of the series "My Challenges with Race" will feature Scott Ferguson, President of the United Way of the Chattahoochee Valley. A native of Maine, Scott came to Columbus a year ago from Utica, New York where he served as director of the United Way there. He has over 18 years of United Way experience and at each of the previous United Ways where he has worked, they have achieved record levels of participation and giving. Before joining United Way, Scott worked in finance, accounting and human resources. His observations, coming from New York to Columbus, give him a unique insight with respect to race relations. His topic is "My perspective on race - as seen from North and South"

The Race Relations Breakfasts are held at Ruth Ann's on Veterans Parkway. Breakfast begins at 7:30am and you are encouraged to bring a friend with you. $6.00 is asked of regular members. First timers and visitors are our guests.
