Tuesday, July 21, 6:30 pm. Panel Discussion on African
America Identity
The BBC newsmagazine, Focus on Africa, will host a panel
discussion on African-American identity at the International
House on the CSU campus.
Moderated by Vivian C. Bishop, panelists will include
Solicitor General Ben Richardson, Associate Professor John
Studstill and two top editors of the London-based quarterly
magazine
Discussion top is "The Changing Nature of African-American
Identity and Attitudes towards Africa since the Election of
President Obama."
The panel discussion, one of four across the U.S., is free
and open to the public.
"The latest issue of our magazine explores the question of
African-American identity and linkages with Africa, so our visit
to America aims at continuing the debate around this subject,"
said Alison Kingsley-Hall, managing editor of the magazine
that's circulated in every African nation where English is
spoken, as well as the U.S., Europe and Canada.
Copies of this issue are available at the Main Library,
Mildred Terry and North Branches.
Panelists are: a.. Nick Ericsson, who's both editor of BBC
Focus on Africa magazine and a radio producer with BBC World
Service news and current affairs.. b.. Alison Kingsley-Hall, the
magazine's managing editor and a longtime BBC employee in other
roles. c.. Mukoma wa Ngugi, a regular columnist for BBC Focus on
Africa magazine and the author of Hurling Words at Consciousness

Ben Richardson, solicitor general for Muscogee County, who's
also active in the 100 Black Men of Columbus and other civic

St. Thomas Church is sponsoring a series on Iran on Wednesday
evenings. The second and third in the three-part series begins
at;6:30pm and continues for two more Wednesday evenings.
These sessions are facilitated by Terry Followill and Chris
Slembarski of the Peace & Justice Group and are free and open to
the public.
After the presentations, time is set aside for discussion.
