Third Annual Recognition Dinner
The Annual Recognition is the flagship event for One
Columbus. It is one of the events that are part of the Martin Luther
King Jr. Commemorative activities that come in the month of January
each year.
If is one of the Educational Events of One
Columbus and brings to the people of the Chattahoochee Valley, a
nationally known speaker that offers a message of challenge and hope
to those who attend and to the community at large.
It has a reputation for having the most diverse
audience of major activities of this sort in the Valley.
It will be held in the Columbus Convention and
Trade Center in Columbus starting at 7:00 PM on Thursday, January 18,
2007. Tickets are $40.00 and are available to purchase at WTVM
-Channel 9 on Wynnton Road, Ruth Ann's Restaurant, and The Family
Center on 15th Street and Fourth Street Baptist Church.
Two awards will be given at the Third Annual
Recognition Dinner.
The first is the Unity Chalice Award which goes
to a person or organization that has demonstrated outstanding service
or activity in the field of race relations. (see description of
Community Service Award)
The second is for youth. The Richard K. Miles
Award goes to a high school student who has demonstrated outstanding
service or activity in the field of race relations. (see description
of the Richard K. Miles Award)
The theme for 2007 is “Building Bridges. . .
Connecting People”
Colors are Black, Gold and White
One Columbus is a not for profit community
service organization whose mission is to create unity and respect
within the diverse populations of the Chattahoochee Valley.
Its goals are twofold: Building bridges through
democratic dialogue and pushing back the walls of ignorance and
misunderstanding through education.
