The Fifth Annual One Columbus Recognition Dinner
is scheduled for Thursday, January 22, 2009, where a person or
organization will receive the prestigious Community Excellence Award
for their work in the field of diversity and race relations. The
Dinner will be held at the Trade Center at 7:00 pm and will conclude a
week of events that start with Martin Luther King Jr.’s birthday.
The winner would have demonstrated
significant efforts toward assisting, encouraging and promoting
diversity and affecting change in the quality of life for the Columbus
community as well as contributed to improving racial harmony.
Former Community
Excellence Award winners include Dan Amos, Carmen Cavezza, Rev. J. H.
Flakes, Jr. and the South Columbus Revitalization Task Force.
Criteria for
nominations and the nomination forms can be found on the One Columbus
website www.onecolumbus.org,
and on www.wtvm.com.
“There are
dozens of people and many organizations in our community that are
making a significant difference with respect to improved race
relations,” Awards Committee chair Teresa Tomlinson
said, “and we want to learn about their important work and show them
how deeply the community appreciates their efforts.”
‘The One Columbus Recognition Dinner is an
educational event that has developed a reputation for bringing
together the most diverse audience of any major activity of this sort
in the Valley,” Tomlinson said, “it is a true community
celebration.”
Nomination forms
should be completed and sent to One Columbus by the end of October.
The dinner will also include the presentation of
the Richard R. Miles Award, which goes to a high school student who
has demonstrated outstanding service or activity in the field of race
relations.
