Kenneth Crooks currently serves as Executive Director to
One Columbus, a 501(c)(3) not for profit community service
agency dedicated to building unity, racial harmony and
understanding among the many diverse cultures in the
Chattahoochee Valley.
He came to Columbus from a post at Fort Valley State
College in 1993 to assume the presidency of the Urban League
of Greater Columbus from which position he retired in 2001
after 9 years of distinguished service.
Before working briefly with the Urban League in Broward
County, Florida he worked for the National Urban League for
over 20 years stationed in Atlanta.. He served under Whitney
M. Young, Jr, Vernon Jordan, and Hugh B. Price.
During his Urban League career, he took time off to
coordinate Maynard Jackson's first campaign for Mayor of
Atlanta.
His early education included elementary school in Hampton,
Virginia, and secondary school in Jamaica, West Indies.
He graduated from the University of Massachusetts (BBA),
and Atlanta University (MBA).
His current involvement in the Columbus community includes
serving on boards at the Medical Center Hospital Authority,
the Center for Servant Leadership, the Mayor's Commission On
Unity and Diversity, Columbus For Kids, Inc. (Our House) and
the Planning Committee of the Chattahoochee Valley Writers
Conference. .
He is married to Mary G. Walker, a local real estate
broker, and has two grown children, Kenneth Crooks, III, of
Atlanta, and Shelly Crooks Michael of Douglasville, Georgia.
