Dare to Dream 2008
Dare to Dream is an annual teen summit which gives
local teens (high school sophomores and juniors) an opportunity to
discuss diversity, race relations, community issues, and the many life
challenges they face. Originally started 15 years ago by Leadership
Columbus and supported by One Columbus, Inc. this year One Columbus,
Inc. is proud to host this important event. This year’s program focuses on Recognizing, Relating and Respecting the
differences and diversity of others and how we can work together to
build bridges and connect together as a community -- One Community,
One Columbus.
Jorge Vega
Jorge Vega joined Hatcher Stubbs on January 1, 2006. Jorge has been
practicing law, primarily civil litigation, since his admission to the
State Bar of Texas in 1983. He is also admitted to practice law in
Washington State (2002), and in 2005 became licensed in the State of
Georgia.
From January 1994 until January 1999, Jorge served as the
First Assistant Attorney General for the Texas Attorney General’s
Office where he was responsible for the management and supervision of
the entire Office of the Attorney General, comprised of approximately
650 lawyers plus over 3,000 employees. In that capacity, he made all
final major litigation decisions, as well as final management,
personnel, and administrative decisions and had direct oversight of
all contracts and a $250 million annual budget. Jorge was responsible
for communication and contact with all elected and appointed
officials, and worked with the Texas Legislature on all matters,
including appropriations, legal issues, legislation, etc. He was
responsible for meeting with business and community leaders, county
and city officials, members of the judiciary, and members of the
public to address matters of public importance.
After leaving the
Attorney General’s Office, Jorge returned to private practice,
again, in civil litigation, until he accepted the position of Planning
Director for the City of Bellingham, Washington in early 2003. He
served in that capacity until relocating to Columbus, Georgia in
December 2005 and joining Hatcher Stubbs in January, 2006. Jorge also
taught Constitutional Law at the graduate and undergraduate level at
the University of Texas at San Antonio.
