ITEMS OF IMPORTANCE

Monday, March 3, 2008

You are invited to the One Columbus MIXER at 11:00 am on Monday.

  • Your personal quiz:  Can you name 10 ways in which Dialogue differs from Debate?  Hint: In dialogue, finding common ground is the goal. In debate, winning is the goal.  Within what One Columbus program would you find the three words: Recognize, Respect, and Relate?

Answers to these questions and the meaning of ". . . unity and respect. . ." (see our website www.onecolumbus.org) are what the MIXER on Monday will offer you as well as provide an opportunity to get involved. Bring a friend.  This activity is OPEN TO THE PUBLIC.

DOWN THE ROAD

Community Prayer Breakfasts

The Mayor's Prayer Breakfast idea started in America in 1952 to garner support from the diverse populations for prayer for cities.  In Columbus , the Valley Interaction Ministry began Prayer Breakfasts in the late 1980's that brought together whites and blacks to support the idea.

Former Mayor Frank Martin revived the "Mayor's Prayer Breakfast" idea in 1991 that grew into large interracial gatherings with local and out of town speakers.

The Mayor's Prayer Breakfast continued to be a unifying force in the Columbus community under former Mayor Bobby Peters and the Valley Interaction Ministry.

In 2002, the Valley Interaction Ministry became a part of One Columbus and the event, under former Mayor Bob Poydasheff, was renamed the Community Prayer Breakfast.

This year, the first of three breakfasts will be held on April 15, 2008 at 7:00 pm on the Plaza Level of the Government Center.  Mark your calendar now.
