H. Berrien Zettler
My name is H. Berrien Zettler.
I was born in Atlanta, GA., on October 9, 1935, the
oldest of four children. I was baptized, received first holy communion and was
confirmed at the (Catholic) Shrine of the Immaculate
Conception and attended parochial elementary school through
the eighth grade. I
then went to high school at Marist College and afterwards
attended Emory University for two years and finished college
at the Catholic University of America.
I received a master’s degree in sociology from
Valdosta State University.
I was employed with the State of Georgia as a
probation/parole/corrections counselor for two years before
going to work with the U. S. Department of Labor, where I
worked as an occupational safety and health officer in
Savannah and Columbia, S.C., eventually moving to Washington,
D.C. I was
employed with the Dept. of Labor for 31 years and retired in
June of 2005. I
am married to Nancy Calhoun of Columbus, GA., since 1973.
We have five children.
In July of 2005 my wife and I
moved to Columbus, where we now live. I have been active with One Columbus since coming here,
serving regularly as facilitator of dialogue groups.
I am a member of the board of directors and serve as
coordinator of dialogue groups.
